The Untold Story of American Superheroines explores the evolution of the superheroine from the rise of Wonder Woman in the 1940s to other pop culture superheroines such as Buffy Summers and Batgirl. While the documentary primarily focuses on Wonder Woman, it is still very fascinating to hear about her rise, fall, and eventual return along with a plethora of other superheroines. The documentary features interviews with women such as Gloria Steinem, Kathleen Hanna (of the riot grrl band, Bikini Kill), and Gail Simone, the first female writer for the Wonder Woman comics. The soundtrack and artwork are very energetic and greatly enhance the viewing experience. If there’s a Wonder Woman in your life, this movie is highly recommended!
